Heaven on a Plate

This was the 1st dessert that I made. It's really delicious, creamy chocolaty goodness AND very easy to make. This is not your regular cocoa jelly, it's heaven on a plate! I actually made them 6 times during the new year and it was a hit with both the young and old.

See the dark brown streaks in the middle? They're Oreos!

Recently Domesticated

It came to me like a light in the dark. Hahaha....well, that's the best way to describe how I started baking. What was just a passing fancy is now a passion, an obsession....almost. I don't know how, but I just got inspired. Thoughts bloomed to ideas, ideas translated to action and with a little fund (of course this is one of the most important elements) and lots of excitement, I managed to produce a simple chocolate cake.

And of all the days I decided to bake, it had to be when my mom was away! Being a person who panics easily (trust me, I really do), I made a dozen calls or so to my mom. She got rather exasperated, I can tell :) But considering all the drama (like what, I hear you ask?), the cake turned out better than I expected. Going back to the drama, here's what happened;

  • i didn't have the proper measuring utencils, so I had to trust my panicky instinct (not wise eh...i know!) - Phone call no.1.

  • before this i NEVER touched my mom's oven so I had no idea if I turned the knobs and pressed the buttons correctly - Phone call no.2.
  • the instruction on the recipe read 'beat on low for 2 minutes then on high for 30 seconds). I didn't have a timer so again, I had to trust my by then, panic-ier (if there's such a word) instinct.
  • I then poured the batter into the baking pan. But how much batter? How much is too much? - Phone call no.3.
  • Next I crossed my fingers and transfered it into the oven. I couldn't take my eyes of the damn thing! The cake was rising rapidly and by the rate it was going, I decided to make phone call no.4.
  • My mom had to laugh by then and told me to lower the temperature. I kept my fingers crossed until the timer rang, gingerly stuck a toothpick in the middle, the side, then the middle again, slightly off the side, then somewhere in the middle again before finally removing the cake from the oven.
Anyway as they say, the rest is history. Admittedly, the cake was double the size it should be (I must have over beat the batter) but it tasted alright. And that was enough for me.

Trust me, you won't wanna see the underside of this cake. This is the bottom side up! However, if you are curious, send me a note ;) Don't say I didn't warn you....

I did a lot of research on the wonderful world of internet and found many, many recipes that I was eager to try. Mostly desserts though, probably because I find them less of a hassle to make. I will share them with you as soon as I can and post some photos as well. For now, I really gotta go because it's starting to rain and the super duper loud clap of thunder serves as a warning, "Log off now or I'll fry your modem!".
